LaBerge, Michael James
Age 73, passed away on April 12, 2024 at the Wealshire of Bloomington. He was born on February 15, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to Arlyce and James LaBerge. The family moved to Rochester, Minnesota where he attended St. Pius X School and Lourdes High School, graduating in 1969. He then attended St. Cloud State University where Mike met his wife Priscilla Jensen, and they were married in 1972. Mike received his BS degree in English and Developmental Reading in 1973. After teaching in Hartley, Iowa, Mike returned to Minnesota and obtained his MA degree in Secondary Reading from the University of Minnesota.
Priscilla and Mike settled in Highland Park in St. Paul. Mike's friendly and congenial personality served him well in his 32 years of teaching English, Reading and Driver's Education in St. Paul Public Schools. Mike was proud of his service to the St. Paul Federation of Teachers, St. Paul Retired Teachers Inc., Minnesota Drivers Training Education Association and the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed traveling with his family, and spending time outdoors, especially camping and fishing.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Priscilla, son Justin LaBerge (Katja), daughter Allison LaBerge and grandson Alexander Gallardo.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on May 17, at the Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel in Crystal, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc., or Northern Star Scouting.

My deepest condolences for your loss to his family. I knew Mike at Lourdes in Rochester & graduated with him in '69. He was a kind, thoughtful & considerate young man. I feel that there are other ties to him as I read his Obituary. My son also graduated in English from college and currently lives in Highland Park in St Paul. Our grandson will be a freshman at Mike's old stomping grounds this fall. What a legacy he has left in his career & family. May he rest in peace.

Mike (AKA Sadman) so many HS and grade school memories. We were in band together and one time we drove his Austin Healy down from Lourdes to Solders field with a Tuba sticking out the top.....getting ready for a parade in marching band. Another time we got separated by Mr Eiden in band because we talked too much. So he moved the Baritones away from the Saxophones. The next day we brought walkie talkies to band!

Mike was a good friend in HS - played together in a half-hearted attempt to form a rock band. He played the organ and was the best true musician in the group. I´ll never forget the bug-eyed Sprite he drove - only he could pull off owning one of those in HS. Rest in peace.

Mike was always fun to work with! We first met while teaching Drivers Education! I think Mike worked in most of the same programs! Including the same Charter school after retirement!
Mike was always good with most students!
Mike worked at the charter school before he learned that I was his principal!
