Obituary published on Legacy.com by Justen Funeral Home & Crematory - McHenry on Jun. 10, 2023.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Abraham Lamm; a beloved son, faithful brother, devoted uncle, loving nephew, caring cousin, and dear friend. While our grief is overwhelming, we wish to celebrate and honor the life that Mike lived, the laughter and joy that he brought to others, and the indelible memories that he leaves behind.
Mike was born on March 5, 1985 in
Highland Park, IL. He spent his formative years in
McHenry, IL and graduated from McHenry East High School in 2003. Mike went on to complete his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at The University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign and his advanced degree at Loyola University at Chicago with a focus in Medical Microbiology.
Mike's lifelong interest in Pharmaceutical Design and Development led him along a path similarly traveled and inspired by his own parents' careers in Clinical Research and Medical Diagnostics at Abbott Laboratories. As a Molecular Biologist and Senior Manager of International Regulatory Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry, Mike brought miracle drugs and DNA augmentation treatment to children and adults who were otherwise without hope. He remained a student of science throughout his life, maintaining a genuine and passionate interest in physics, biochemistry, and astrobiology.
Mike was an avid traveler. He cherished his home away from home in California surrounded by his loving and adored California family. Mike enjoyed exploring far away corners of the globe with others and frequently traveled on his own. He marveled at the accomplishments, diversity, and beauty of the world around him. From Thailand, Asia, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Central America, and Alaska, Mike felt honored and fulfilled to have experienced so many different places and ways of life. He was a confident and curious adventurer, sleeping in treehouses, visiting sacred temples, swimming and sunning on peaceful shores, and sampling the common and uncommon cuisines of so many cultures that he admired.
Mike very much enjoyed staying active. He loved spending time at the gym and participating in sports with friends. Casual yet competitive matches in volleyball and dodgeball and catching the occasional Cubs game were some of his favorite pastimes.
Perhaps most of all, Mike's witty humor and sharp intellect were treasured by all who knew him. Mike was truly the light and life of the party. His strong and decisive will and infectious laughter will be forever and sorely missed.
Michael is survived by his father George Lamm, his sister Rebecca Latshaw (Aaron), their children Ari, Ayla and Mira, his brothers, Drew Nolan-Lamm (William), Joshua Lamm (Jessica), his Aunt Marcia Lamm (Carrie), Uncle David Lamm (Donna), Aunt Lisa Kleiman (Scott), and many beloved cousins and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Janet Lamm.
Memorial Visitation will take place at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J Miller Memorial Hwy,
McHenry, IL 60050 on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., with a Memorial Service at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at McHenry County Jewish Cemetery, 13603 Co. Hwy 30, Woodstock, IL 60098.
Mike sought research and a cure for Alzheimer's disease after losing his mother to the horrible illness in 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org) in Michael A. Lamm's name and memory.
