Michael J. Lapikas, age 90, late of Crest Hill, and a longtime Joliet resident, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Lightways Hospice.
Born October 14, 1934, in Joliet, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Schrader) Lapikas. His three brothers, John, Martin, and Joseph, two nephews, Jeffrey Lapikas and Joseph Lapikas, and a niece, Eileen Eubanks, also preceded him in death.
Michael grew up in Joliet, attended Joliet Catholic High School, and later graduated from Lewis University in 1955. He worked for the Joliet Public Library from 1985 to 2007, but derived his greatest satisfaction working as a Disc Jockey from 1971 to 1996. Michael loved music from many eras and enjoyed collecting records, and was also an avid softball player.
Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Deena Lapikas, Lynn Briski, James Lapikas, Richard Lapikas, Daniel Lapikas, Joseph Lapikas, and Steven Lapikas; and many cousins and dear friends.
Visitation for Michael J. Lapikas will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, from 8:00 a.m., until the time of services at 9:15 a.m., from the funeral home, to Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Lurie Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
