Michael Vernon Lewis, 72, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. He was born on January 1, 1954, in Salem, a son of the late Foster E. and Esther C. (Hicks) Lewis.
Michael was a hardworking man who worked at Crucible Steel before continuing his career as a truck driver, a role that perfectly matched his lifelong love of the open road. Driving was more than a job to him—it was a source of joy and freedom.
An Army veteran, Michael took honor in serving his country. He was a devoted and longtime member of AME Zion Simmons Chapel, where his faith and fellowship were important parts of his life. He found happiness in the simple pleasures—listening to blues and rock music, cheering passionately for Ohio sports teams, and proudly collecting Cleveland Browns memorabilia.
Above all, Michael will be remembered as a family man. He leaves behind his children, Monica (Domingo) Vega, Marriea (Anthony) Layton, Marla (Brian) Burton, Michael Lewis, Jr., and his step-son Paul D. (Dawn) Gerwig. He is also survived by his sister, Michelle (Daniel) Jones; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of pride and love in his life.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan, and his brothers Marion, Sr., Marvin, and Mark, Sr. Though deeply missed, his memory will live on through the stories shared, the music he loved, and the roads he traveled.
A memorial service is being planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Weber Funeral Home of Lisbon.
