Michael Luckey, Renowned Automotive Analyst
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael ("Mike") Luckey, 75, on July 15 at Morristown Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mike is survived by his beloved wife Andrea Luckey, his daughter Catherine, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Virginia* Mike, and his sister, Susan Bare.
Mike was a well-known and respected automobile analyst who started his own full-service consulting firm, The Luckey Consulting Group, Inc., in 1988. Under his leadership, the firm became a trusted partner to nearly every major automobile manufacturer, with a particular focus on luxury brands such as Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW, MINI, Audi, and Volvo. Known for his incisive market analysis and forecasting, Mike was frequently interviewed by financial news organizations such as Bloomberg, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, Automotive News, and Ward's Automotive Reports. He was also a featured interviewee on the future of the auto industry by top television outlets, including CNBC, Bloomberg, and the Wall Street Journal Report.
Before founding his firm, Mike served as Vice President and Senior Automotive Analyst at Shearson Lehman Brothers on Wall Street. From 1980 to 1985, I held the position of Vice President and Manager of Automotive Consulting Services on Wall Street at Merrill Lynch Economics. It was there that he sharpened his expertise in financial and industry analysis. Earlier in his career, Mike worked as an economist at Ford Motor Company's World Headquarters, and before that, in 1975, he began his professional journey at the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association.
Mike earned his undergraduate degree in economics with high distinction from the University of Rochester, he went on to receive a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan. Mike will long be remembered for his exceptional intellect and leadership, which enabled him to leave an enduring mark on analysis and forecasting in the automotive industry.
Mike was also a man much admired by his friends for his sincerity, reliability, generosity, and loyalty in the community he lived in in New Jersey. For many years, he was active as an usher at the Smoke Rise Community Church located at 38 North Road, Kinnelon, NJ, 07405, New Jersey Sunday September 21, at 12 noon.
