Michael MacCurtain of Whitman passed away surrounded by his family on December 25, 2024, at the age of 74. Mike was born and raised in Dorchester and attended Christopher Columbus High School in the North End. He later attended Bridgewater State University. He began his career in education and attended Cambridge College while working and achieved his master’s degree. He continued his career with the Natick Public Schools, Department of Youth Services and Brockton Public Schools where he taught until his retirement.
Mike was an incredibly generous person and spent much of his retirement volunteering with Pine Street Inn, Main Spring House, Eucharistic ministries and various other organizations. He loved to travel, read, tell stories and write. He was even a published author of children’s books including the well-known “Willie the Moose”. Mike was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Above all else Mike was devoted to his family. He cherished all the moments he was able to spend with them.
Mike was predeceased by his wife Linda MacCurtain in 1997 and was the current husband of Wanda MacCurtain of Whitman. He was the loving father of Matthew MacCurtain his wife Rosemary of Middleboro, Michael MacCurtain his wife Laurel of Whitman, Kathleen Sances her husband Joseph of W. Bridgewater, Denise Bondi her husband Michael of Dover, NH, Meredith Kessler her husband Eric of Dover, NH and the late Colleen MacCurtain. Mike adored his grandchildren Liam, Rosalia, Kaleigh, Anthony, Seamus, Tara, Salvatore, Shane, Lily, Joseph and Owen. He also leaves behind his siblings William MacCurtain his wife Denise of Wareham, Gerald MacCurtain his wife Cathy of Braintree and Patrick MacCurtain of Boynton Beach FL.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation in memory of Mike on Monday, December 30, 2024 from 4-7PM in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, Whitman. A Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 10:30AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial to follow at the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mike memory to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
