Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duncan Graves Funeral Home - Presque Isle on Mar. 4, 2025.
Presque Isle - Michael D. MacPherson died March 1, 2025, at Aroostook House of Comfort. He was born in Presque Isle to Robert W. and Greta M. (Gardiner) MacPherson on April 26, 1949.
He grew up in Presque Isle and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1967. After being awarded an ROTC scholarship, he attended University of Maine at Orono where he earned a BS in electrical engineering in 1971. He continued his education by obtaining his MBA at UMO in 1973.
Michael was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he fulfilled his commitment to the Army. After his discharge as captain in 1977, he returned to Presque Isle with his wife and son. There he entered business with his father at Aroostook Communications which served two-way radio service in Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties. Later the two started Aroostook Paging. Michael developed several other communications businesses as various needs were recognized. His last venture was the creation of Just Value Associates where he provided tax assessing services to several communities in northern Maine.
Over the years living in Presque Isle, he was involved in numerous organizations in various capacities. Typically, he served as a board member and then progressed to a position of leadership. Involvement included Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce, Presque Isle Industrial Council, The Aroostook Medical Center, Turner Foundation, Presque Isle Rotary Club, Aroostook Hospice Foundation, and Grant Memorial United Methodist Church. He also served on the board of directors for MMG Insurance, retiring from that board as chairman in 2020. His enjoyment in each endeavor was seeing progress in the organization and making a difference in his community. In 1997, he was named Presque Isle Citizen of the Year.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Clark) MacPherson, his son Andrew M. MacPherson (Melissa) of Palm Harbor, FL, brother Brian R. MacPherson of Presque Isle as well as sister-in-law Kelly C. Mead (Andrew) of Bangor, brother-in-law William W. Clark, Jr. (Jan) of Turner, and Kimberley Clark of Buckfield. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The compassionate care he received by way of home hospice for over three months and then as a patient at Aroostook House of Comfort will forever be remembered and appreciated by his family and friends.
On March 9, visiting hours will begin at 1:00 pm at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church with a memorial service scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves officiating.
