Obituary for Michael Richard McClanahan, age 79, of Moores Hill, Indiana, who passed away on December 14, 2025, at the Veterans Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mike was born on June 12, 1946, in Milan, Indiana, to the late Harold Richard (Shorty) and Margaret Belle McClanahan. He graduated from Moores Hill High School and soon after joined the military.
Mike was a proud US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a Chief Petty Officer responsible for training recruits in the operation and maintenance of aircraft weapon systems stateside. He retired with 22 years of service. He was a past Life member of the Moores Hill American Legion Post 209, a Life member of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter #71 and the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard, and a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at the Rising Sun Casino and the Irish Bowl with his dad.
Michael was a member of First Baptist Church of Aurora. He enjoyed tinkering and invented the Automatic Ticket Dispenser (ATD), a gaming machine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Kathy, his son, Brien, and his grandson, Gavin. He is survived by his brothers, Patrick and Kelly; his half-brother, Casey McClanahan; his son, Stephen; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Aurora, Indiana. Family and friends will be received from 11 am to 12 pm, with Pastor Bill Secrest officiating. Military Honors will follow. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 209.
