Walter Morand Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rullman Hunger Funeral Home - Aurora on Feb. 11, 2026.
Walter Carl Morand Jr., 75, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., in hospice care in Hamilton, Ohio.

He was born on May 21, 1950, in Batesville, Indiana, the son of the late Walter Carl Morand Sr. and Frances Marie (Downey) Morand.

Walter graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora, Indiana, in 1968. He went on to serve as a Specialist in the United States Army, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1969 to 1971.

Walter married Dawn Dobson in 1976, and to this union they welcomed a daughter, Alyssa Marie Morand, on September 29, 1977. Though Walter and Dawn later divorced, he remained proud of his daughter. Sadly, Alyssa passed away on August 22, 2022, in North Carolina.

Although he did not pursue higher education, Walter was well read and knowledgeable. He worked as a machinist in various industries throughout the surrounding area.

Walt loved fishing, hunting, and blues music-especially playing blues guitar with his friends. He enjoyed building model airplanes and had a love for flying. He also liked riding motorcycles. A born-again Christian, Walt made his decision for faith as an adult. He had a fondness for Hershey's Kisses and could sometimes survive on coffee and Reese's Cups. The woods near his home were his sanctuary.

Walter is survived by his sister, Gaye Lynn (Morand) Caley and her husband, Robert, of Markle, Indiana; his grandsons, Connor Lee Lunsford of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Mason Houtz of Wilmington, North Carolina; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Frances Morand, and his daughter, Alyssa Morand.

Walt will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
