Michael P. McKenna, 56, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut (New Britain Campus) after a brief illness.
Born in Waterbury on June 18, 1968, Michael was the beloved only child of Patrick and Lorraine (Fitzpatrick) McKenna. He dedicated his life to public service, retiring from the Waterbury Police Department after 20 years. During his distinguished career, he served as a Detective, Sergeant, and K-9 Officer. After retirement, Michael continued his commitment to law enforcement with the Bloomfield Police Department for an additional year. He also proudly served as a Deputy U.S. Marshal and volunteered as a firefighter with the Farmington Fire Department.
Most recently, Michael worked as a Transport Specialist with Nationwide Organ Recovery Transport Alliance, where he played a vital role in saving lives. He was also known for his sense of humor and was a part-time comedian, bringing joy and laughter to many.
In his personal life, Michael was an avid sports fan, often cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Lightning. He enjoyed listening to rock and country music, and enjoyed fishing and golfing. A dedicated runner, he often ran at least six miles a day and had recently completed his first half marathon.
Michael is survived by his son, Sean McKenna; his daughter, Kelly McKenna; his Great Aunt, Karen Trudeau; his dearest friend, Mike Stone; and his girlfriend, Vicky Holmes.
In accordance with the family's wishes, all services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation, PO Box 719329, Philadelphia, PA 19171-9329.
