Michael Arthur Meyer, 83 years old, passed away on 10/15/24. He was the widower of Barbra E. Meyer (nee Elgin). They shared 59 years of marriage.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of Leo F. Meyer and Mary F. Meyer (nee Heinlein). He attended Mount St Joseph's High School in Baltimore.
He was employed in the credit card manufacturing business in Baltimore, Maryland at Thorn EMI Malco Plastics before moving to Los Angeles, California in 1985 to work for First Interstate Bancard Company as Vice President and Manager. In 1991, he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona to work for Bank of America, Bank Card Division as Vice President and Operations Manager. Upon retirement, he studied HVAC and went on to own and operate MAM Homecare.
He was passionate about motorcycle racing and was national #62 in the Grand National Professional Dirt Track Series in his 20s. He later put his racing passion aside to focus on his true love, aviation. He was a skilled pilot for almost 50 years and enjoyed flying his 1967 Mooney every weekend to breakfast with his pilot friends. He was affectionately known as "Mooney Mike". He was a very proud member of the United Flying Octogenarians.
Michael was a dedicated father. He treasured his daughters and grandchildren. He had a quiet, yet confident presence. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and easy-going nature. He was everyone's "fix it" guy and loved tinkering with mechanical things. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends and loved hosting Sunday evening dinners. He is survived by his devoted twin daughters, Michelle Meyer Shilling (Robert) and Barbra A. Meyer Doud (Thomas), his loving grandchildren, Marc, Amelia, Lauren, Mary, Lexi, Lilly, and Owen, his brother J. Patrick Meyer (Lois), his beloved Doberman, Freya, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00 am at Saint Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, where he was a long-time parishioner. The address is 2312 E Campbell Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. The mass will be live-streamed at www.staphx.org. Internment will be private.
The family will greet visitors from 9:30 am to 10:00 am before the scheduled mass.
