Michael "Mike" Carney, 70, of Rushford, MN, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Mike was born on January 13, 1955, in Winona, MN, to Richard and Dorthy (Dady) Carney. He was one of seven children. Mike attended St. Stan’s in Winona and later Vo-tech where he studied tool & die. On April 7, 1973 Mike married the love of his life Helen (Gora), and they spent the next 52 years together. They welcomed two children, Michael Jr., and Melanie. Mike made a career selling insurance through Aflac. After retirement Mike enjoyed spending time outdoors, on his motorcycle, and time spent with family and loved ones.
Mike is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Michael Jr. (Machelle) Carney; daughter, Melanie Stiever; grandchildren: Kendra Carney, Evan Carney, Elizabeth Stiever, Sadie Stiever, and Brady Stiever; and brother, Rick Carney.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Sheila Pomeroy, Teresa Payette, Julie Small, Dottie Carney; brother, Steve Carney; niece, Tina, and nephew, Jay.
Mike’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the local firefighters, ambulance crew, Fillmore County Sheriff, Logan Brand and Paul Corcoran, as well as a special thank you to Steve Wenzel, Wayne Exe, Mandy Schmoker and everyone who was there for support.
A funeral will be held at 11am on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 4-7pm at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford, and will continue one hour prior to service on Wednesday.
