Michael “Mike” David Mericle, 76, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Friendship Haven Celebration Center, 420 Kenyon Road. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Michael was born October 28, 1948, in Fort Dodge, the son of Morill K. and Ella M. (Fleak) Mericle. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1967. On June 13, 1969, he was united in marriage to Barbara Point at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mike worked in the Forestry in Marcell, MN and operated Lakewood Café and Laundromat with his wife for 5 years before the couple returned to Iowa. Over the years, Mike sold auto parts and was employed with Sieg Company for 22 years. Mike, along with his wife, Barb, also did foster care for 30 years and helped over 300 children. They received the Foster Parent of the Year Award from the Governor. In his younger days, Mike enjoyed playing softball and was inducted as a member of the Softball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and trips to Canada with his good friends: Ron and Fred. He looked forward to casino trips with his wife – especially their time in Las Vegas.
Mike is survived by 4 children: Wendy Lundquist and husband Andy of Stanhope, IA, Jody Phillips and husband Brad of Fort Dodge, Bryan Mericle and wife Halley of Fort Dodge and Detrace Foy of West Palm Beach, FL; 9 grandchildren: Jordan Rexroat, Taylor Deimerly, Drew Lundquist, Madalyn Montgomery, Gage Mericle, Charlie Mericle, Ellie Mericle, Cameron Stefan, Javan Hernandez, and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Barbara Mericle in 2018; and an infant son: Scott Mericle.
The family would like to give a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice for their loving care and compassion they provided. Their staff is truly amazing.
