Michael Reginald Slaughter, 48, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Michael was born on December 21, 1976, in Alton, Illinois, to Lois Wallace and Don Slaughter Sr. He grew up in Alton before moving to the Red River Valley in 1992, the place he would proudly call home for the rest of his life.

In 2001, Mike welcomed his son, Michael Slaughter Jr., into the world — one of his greatest joys. On August 2, 2010, he married the love of his life, Cindy (Fevig-Hernandez), in Moorhead, MN. Though he did not formally adopt Cindy’s sons, Christian Hernandez and Samuel Hernandez, Mike embraced them fully, and they affectionately called him Dad — a role he cherished.

Mike was deeply proud of his Sioux/Lakota and Scottish heritage, and was even a landowner in Scotland, honored with the title of Laird.

A true sports encyclopedia, Mike could recall stats, scores, and players with uncanny precision. He passionately followed the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Chicago Bears. He also loved Hallmark movies and Forensic Files, enjoyed playing pool and darts, and listened to rock music ranging from Elvis to Ozzy Osbourne — whom he had the chance to meet in person.

Mike worked as a forklift operator and proud Teamster for 23 years with FSA/Cash-Wa Distributing.

Of all his roles in life, becoming a grandpa was one he treasured. The newest addition to the Slaughter family, grandson Ameris, brought Mike immense joy.

Michael is survived by his wife, Cindy Slaughter; sons, Michael Slaughter Jr., Christian and Samuel Hernandez; his sisters, Kristine Royal, Page, ND and Denise (Rick Harris) Slaughter West Fargo, ND; his brother, Don (Nancy) Slaughter Jr., Dow, IL; and his grandson, Ameris.

He was preceded by his parents, and brother-in-law, Jeff Royal.

A Gathering of Family and Friends for Michael will begin at 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 20, 2025, followed by a Celebration of His Life at 2:00 PM, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service.
