Missentzis, Michael George, Sr. of Flushing, age 91, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Angel Manor in Clio. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Downs will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Michael was born in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Anna (DeRenzo) Missentzis. He grew up in his family business of a fruit market in Pennsylvania. Michael served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned home and married Pearl Polahar on April 25, 1954, in Irwin, Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2005, after 50 years of marriage. Michael was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church. He was deeply loyal to his family and was a wonderful caretaker to his son, Jim. Michael collected Lionel trains and enjoyed Corvair cars. He enjoyed smoking his pipe, playing the daily lottery and enjoying his favorite snacks of popcorn and Tootsie Rolls. Michael was a great listener, always giving good advice to his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Michael and wife Patty Missentzis, Jr., David and wife Cindy Missentzis, Thomas and wife Kellie Missentzis, Felicia and husband Donald Cook; 34 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; sister, Marian and husband Ned Stokes; and many nieces and nephews. Michael was also preceded in death by his son, James; grandson, Jason; brothers, Gus and John Missentzis; and sisters, Delores Ulichnie and Liz Shearer.
