Michael Charles Mong, born on August 4, 1951, passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 73. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Michael's life was defined by his love of family, his zest for life, and his many passions, all of which he pursued with dedication and joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Mong; his loving mother, Lenore Whipple; his dear children, Matthew (Nicole) Mong and Jason (Julie) Mong; and his cherished grandchildren, Sydney, Luke, and Jaxon. He is also survived by his siblings, Daniel (Linda) Mong, Joseph (Georgia) Mong, and Mary (Jerry) Danko, as well as his step-siblings, Bruce (Jan) Whipple and Cindy (Forrest) Heredia. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Mong; his stepfather, Warren Whipple; and his stepbrother, Jeff (Laurie) Whipple.
A man of many talents and interests, Michael lived life to the fullest. He was known for his hands-on approach to everything he did, especially when it came to his home. Michael had a passion for constantly renovating and adding onto his house, and he took great pride in making each project a reflection of his creativity and craftsmanship. His home was a testament to his hardworking nature and his desire to create a space for his family to enjoy for years to come.
In his younger years, Michael enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and he carried that love for the open road throughout his life. Michael's love of cars and working on them was another central part of his life. Much like his home, he enjoyed updating cars to their fullest potential. He found joy in the mechanics and craftsmanship that went into each vehicle.
As an avid tennis player, Michael was a familiar face at the Peachtree tennis club, where he spent countless hours honing his skills and forming lifelong friendships. He was an active member of the club and even worked there for two decades, contributing not only his time but also his love for the sport.
Michael's deep affection for animals, particularly dogs, was evident in his daily visits to the dog park with his pup, where he became a regular presence. He loved dogs of all kinds and believed in the joy and companionship they brought to his life. He enjoyed hiking, biking, and spending time in nature, often exploring new trails or enjoying a quiet moment in the great outdoors. Michael had a spirit of adventure, and he was always eager to share these experiences with his family.
Michael's warm heart, infectious laughter, and generous spirit made him a beloved figure to all who knew him. He was always quick to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement, and his family and friends will forever remember his selflessness and the love he had for those around him. Though Michael is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the countless stories shared by those who loved him, the many projects he completed, and the joy he brought to every moment.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 12pm until the time of the funeral service at 4pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (3blks. E. of Van Dyke) in Utica.
