Michael Murray Obituary

Michael Charles Murray

1946 - 2025

Cottonwood Heights, UT - Michael Charles Murray, loving husband, dad, Papa Duck, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to everyone, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025 surrounded by family. Mike was born on June 21, 1946 in Salt Lake City to Gerladine Hubbard and Raymond Murray. He married Shari Hyde in 1973 and had 2 children, Suzanne and Michael. They later divorced and Mike remarried in 2001 to Vicky Poulsen Ames and gained 4 bonus children in Chad, Mindi, Michelle, and Michael Ames.

Mike graduated from Judge Memorial High School in 1964 and attended the University of Utah and Westminster College. He was a member of The Beehive Wasatch Bowhunters Archery Club for 50 years and was an avid hunter. He loved camping and fishing, especially at Strawberry Reservoir. Mike enjoyed golf, gardening and yard work, traveling, and cheering on the University of Utah football team. One of his favorite things to do was dutch oven cooking and he was proud to pass on this love to his grandson Brendon. He enjoyed making pasta from scratch and procuring honey from his bees to share with all. Mike enjoyed life, especially sharing a meal, cup of coffee, or a cocktail with friends and family. He never met a person he couldn't befriend with a story or a smile.

Mike is survived by his wife Vicky, his children Suzanne (Brent Hofeling) Murray, Michael (Becky) Murray, Mindi (Stew Macsherry) Ames, Michelle (Jason) Brady, Michael Ames, as well as his cherished grandchildren Brendon (Jess) Brady, Tori Ames, Michael Murray, Brooklynn Brady, Makahlan Murray, Cohen Murray, Joey Derricott, Chris (Makenzie) Derricott, Kelsey (Daniel) Vitacolonna, Cyndal Hofeling, 2 great grandchildren Aria and Deacon, his sisters Pat Adair and Donna Kirkeby, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Geraldine and Raymond, his stepson Chad Ames, his son-in-law Drew Grose, and his best friend Tim Kelly.

Thank you to the IMC medical team for their knowledge and compassion in Mike's care. Mike requested a celebration of life that will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to the Utah Lions Eye Bank where he was able to donate his eyes for research.

Celebration of Life will be held, Friday, June 27, 2025 from 6-8 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 East Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84093.

Mike and I share the same birth year and we were good friends in elementary and junior high. His mother was always supportive of us little rascals and encouraged our wild football games, sometimes full tackle on the street with accompanying bruises and abrasions. Mike and I pursued football in high school, a sport he excelled at, and continued into the collegiate level. Unfortunately, as friends sometimes do, we lost contact when my family relocated to Wyoming but reconnected when I attended the U. I will always remember Mike as a good friend. My condolences to his loved ones and friends. Tim Hill

Even though I knew you the least amount of time, I could tell by all that loved you what a beautiful light you brought to the people that loved you. You will never be forgotten as your memory lives on in those left behind. I wish I could have been one that you called friend. But just knowing you was an absolute honor.
Good bye for now. Rest in peace.
