Michael Blaine Myers received his promotion into God's Heavenly Kingdom on April 7, 2025, with family members at his bedside. Mike was 71.
Mike was born on March 7, 1954, and was one of five boys born to Gerine and Robert Myers. Mike grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1972. Growing up, Mike was always fascinated by how things worked. This fascination led to a specific interest in electronics. Mike would go on to work in the area of electronics repair and eventually open Myers TV and Stereo in Ames.
Sometime in his early years, Mike was drawn to the concept of broadcasting, particularly radio broadcasting. Mike would entertain (or perhaps not) the neighborhood of his Ross Road home by placing large speakers on the front porch and stringing wires and cords all the way to his basement "broadcast room." Then he'd play the top tunes of the day and give the local forecast. Listeners could even win prizes for tuning in! (Mike would give away some of Mom's treasured 78rpm records without her knowledge!) This love for broadcasting would fuel a new passion later in his life.
As Mike moved into adulthood, he married Lindy Good. They were blessed with two children, Angela and Bryan.
Mike would later marry Mary Eitel and to this union were born, Michael and Daniel. They moved to Boone where he would assist in the operation of Boone's Christian radio station, KFGQ. This position further fueled Mike's passion for Christ and his desire to share the Good News with others!
After serving in Christian radio, Mike worked at Percival Scientific and that's where he met Laura Mitchels, whom he married in 2001. Laura already had a daughter, Josie, and Mike would go on to love her as his very own.
Mike eventually left Percival Scientific to become a US Cellular Representative where he served customers at Boone Hardware and later at the Boone Walmart location. After leaving US Cellular, the desire to have his own business grew. This resulted in Mike opening a moped repair shop out of his home for several years.
Working jobs across multiple areas provided Mike many opportunities to connect with people and establish friendships that went well-beyond the scope of his employment. Mike's love of people and his passion to share the gospel served as a springboard into his pursuit of podcasting. This meshed well with his skill set and his love of music, as well as that childhood itch to become a broadcaster. Mike was dedicated to his listening audience, no matter the size. He didn't shy away from a little bit of controversy that some of his topics would spark.
Mike sought to be among God's people to share His Word, and he fully embraced wherever that journey might lead him. That included time working with youth and guiding them in their early spiritual walk. He would be the first to acknowledge the many wrong turns he took in his life, but he used those experiences to help others see that God's forgiving grace goes far beyond our mistakes. He accepts us no matter what we've done or who we are. That's the amazing grace of God!
Mike spent much of his life sharing the Gospel, but his ability to talk was slowly diminished due to his declining health. In the closing days of Mike's life, those at his bedside struggled to fill the silence. In those moments, they spoke the words of Scripture that Mike had so fervently shared with others. Though his physical state was nearly depleted, they knew that Mike was hearing words of encouragement, words of comfort, and words of HOPE! A LIVING HOPE that God has promised to those who accept his invitation to follow Him!
Mike is survived by his wife of 23 years, Laura (Mitchels) Myers; brothers: Bob, Chris (Paulette), Rob (Catherine), Victoria (Tron) Smith, and Jeff (Heather); brothers-in-laws: William (Diane) Mitchels, Rich (Rochelle) Mitchels, and Larry Mitchels; Mike's five children: Angela Jones, Bryan Myers, Michael (Kristen) Myers, Daniel Myers, and Josie (Ben) Bartmess-Yohnke; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Grace Community Church, 625 South Division, Boone, IA. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions given will be used at the family's discretion.
