Michael Kevin Ning

Michael Kevin Ning passed away on August 16, 2024 in a tragic accident in Naxos, Greece. He
was a beloved son, brother, and friend. Michael was born on the 25th of February, 1998, to
father Li Ning and mother Linda Zhang. He is survived by both his parents and his brother
Vincent Ning. Ever the gifted prodigy, Michael attended Langley High School and graduated as
an athlete on the varsity tennis team and embarked to college at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg,
VA where he finished a challenging Computer Science Bachelors of Science. Michael then
acquired a wide breadth of career experiences, including working in healthcare at Epic Systems,
artificial intelligence at Dover, as well as building his own tech startup called Smobi, which
received funding from world-renowned investors like Y Combinator.
Michael was more than just his professional accolades. He finished four marathons in a variety
of locations, including Washington DC, Napa Valley, and even Ibiza, off the Iberian coast. He
also shared a passion for music, ranging from clarinet in his youth to attending all sorts of music
festivals into adulthood. His tennis pedigree was also impressive, ranking in multiple USTA
tournaments. Beyond that, he had an affinity towards mountain biking, basketball, clarinet,
piano, weightlifting, and traveling the world. He lived life to the fullest, and he enriched and
inspired everyone around him. Yet despite his proclivity for adventure, he was a family man, and
loved his parents, brother, and community of friends deeply. May his memory forever live within
our hearts, and may his spirit be with us in everything we hope to achieve.
