Michael J. Norton Jr., U.S. Army Captain (Ret.), 80, of Clackamas, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2025.
Born and raised in North Providence, RI, he was a son of the late Michael J. and Mary R. (Smith) Norton. He was the beloved husband of the late Linda A. (Porcelli) Norton.
Michael was the devoted father of Sean Norton and the late Michael Norton III; stepfather of Emily Brunkhorst (Kate); cherished grandfather of Cole and Elsa Norton; uncle of Brendan Hefner. He is also survived by his siblings Dennis Norton and Eileen Hefner (Ted) and was predeceased by his siblings Richard "Dickie" Norton and Jane Mullen.
A proud graduate of North Providence High School and University of Rhode Island, Michael was a standout athlete in three sports. He continued his education at Providence College, where he participated in the ROTC program.
Captain Norton honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. After his military service, he relocated to Clackamas, Oregon, where he worked in sales for Estes Express Lines for many years. In retirement, Michael enjoyed traveling and playing golf across the country and abroad, especially with his friends at Persimmon Country Club.
A military funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 16th at Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans at www.DAV.org

Mike was great to work with at Estes Express Lines. He hosted me when I traveled to the Pacific Northwest. He was both liked and respected!
