Michael "Mike" Nutter,
63, of
East Sparta, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025. Born on September 6, 1962, in
Lakeland, Florida, he was the son of Joe and Johanna Nutter, who preceded him in death. Mike was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and papaw, whose warm presence and love will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family and friends.
"Nutter," as he was known to his many friends, was a man of many talents and a gifted conversationalist who was often the life of the party. A 1980 graduate of Lakeland High School, he spent most of his growing up years in central Florida, where he developed his passion for the outdoors. Mike later made his way to West Virginia, earning his associate's degree in forestry from Glenville State College in 1990 and his B.S. degree in forestry from West Virginia University in 1992. At the time of his passing, Mike was the Program Administrator, Administrative Support Services at Stark County JFS.
Coming from a family of Scouts, Mike became involved in Boy Scouts, an organization that quickly became a true calling and remained close to his heart. He went on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction achieved by only a small percentage of Scouts. Mike's passion for Scouting continued throughout his adult life, and he shared that love with his two sons, both of whom also earned the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment for which Mike was immensely proud. As a scout he hiked the Philmont Scout Reservation with his dad as his leader and as a leader with each of his boys.
In West Virginia, Mike found the love of his life, his wife, Nannette (Hoard) Nutter, who survives him. Married in June 1990, Mike and Nannette raised their two sons, Joseph "Joey" (Abby) of Waynesburg, Ohio, and Matthew "Matt" (Mariah) of East Sparta, who also survive.
Mike was a very proud papaw to five grandchildren-Colton, Layton, Dalton, Carter, and David-and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his sixth grandchild Emmett, due in February to his youngest son, Matt. One of Mike's greatest joys was getting "knee deep" in painting projects with his grandchildren.
As Mike's passion for the outdoors grew throughout his life, so did his love of all thing's dirt bike and motorcycle riding. He especially enjoyed combining these passions, pairing long rides with camping trips shared with friends and family. He and Nannette treasured their many memorable journeys up and down the East Coast and across the western United States, camping and exploring by day and riding Mike's Harley Davidson on scenic day trips. Mike flourished when surrounded by friends and loved ones and rarely met a stranger; whether riding motorcycles, canoeing, or sitting around a campfire, he kept the conversation going and the laughter flowing.
Welcoming Mike in Heaven, along with his parents, are his brother, Joseph William Nutter II, and his niece, Jessica Lynn Hunt. Left to forever cherish Mike's memory, in addition to his wife, sons, and grandchildren, are his brother, William Nutter (Arleen) of Canton, Ohio; his sister, Marianne Hunt (Ronald) of Melrose, Florida; his nephew, Christopher Hunt (Ariel) and Melissa Nutter of
Lakeland, Florida; and 2 great nieces and a great nephew. Also surviving are his mother in law, Saunnie Hoard; his sister in law, Gina Taylor (Brian) of Glenville, WV; as well as his brother in law, David Hoard (fiancé Taylor), Arnoldsburg, WV as well as cherished nieces Emma and Kennedy Taylor, and Airiana Hoard.
Though his time here was far too short, he filled every day with laughter, adventure, and love, and leaves behind a circle of friends and family whose lives are forever brighter because he was in them. To all who knew and loved Mike, may we remember that goodbyes are not forever and are not the end; they simply mean we will miss you until we meet again.
