Michael “Mike” Adrian Olson, age 76, of McVille, passed away peacefully at his home on September 23, 2025, after a tough but courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born on June 29, 1949, at McVille Hospital to Adrian and Marie (Reynolds) Olson. He entered the world as a surprise twin—his brother, Mark, was born first, and while their father went to share cigars in celebration, Mike made his arrival. He was baptized at Center Church and graduated from McVille High School in 1967.
Mike spent his life farming alongside his brother Mark until their retirement in 2011. Even in retirement, he never slowed down—you could often find him in his shop tinkering away on projects or polishing up one of his pickups. He had a love for sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings, and was thrilled to see the Vikings beat the Bengals 48–10 this season. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, trying his luck at the casino, going for drives in the pickup, and sharing laughs with those he loved. The laughter never seemed to end when he was around his friends and family, especially his siblings.
Mike is survived by his children: Matt (Irene) Olson, Kerrie (Matt) Crace and their children Kirsten and Teddy, Jessica (Lance) Rengstorf and their children Brielle and Emmelina, and Aliah (Ryan) Chappell and their children Jaxton and Ovy. He is also survived by his siblings Mark (Sue) Olson, Bonnie (Dale) Iverson, and Lenette (Jeff) Knudson; his longtime partner, Sherry Klefstad, who lovingly cared for him; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Marie Olson.
Mike will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his humor, and the love he gave to his family. He leaves behind cherished memories that will be carried on through all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on October 3rd, 2025 at Center Lutheran Cemetery, rural McVille, ND. Lunch to follow at Sissy’s Bakery in McVille.
