Michael Opalko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors- Milford on Feb. 9, 2026.
Michael Opalko, age 74, of Milford, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026.

Michael was born on March 7, 1951, in Inkster, Michigan to his loving parents, John and Florence Opalko. As a teenager, he moved with his family to Milford, where he later graduated from Milford High School. It was there that Michael met the love of his life, Joyce, who would become his devoted wife. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three beloved children: Nathan, Sarah, and Jacob.

Michael found immense joy in family, especially in later years when he proudly became "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren, a role he treasured deeply.

For more than 40 years, Michael dedicated himself to his career at Williams International, where he worked in the finance department and eventually retired as a manager. His strong work ethic, integrity, and leadership were evident throughout his career.

Michael lived life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He enjoyed many hobbies, including playing the guitar, organ and drums, practicing karate, sailing, cycling, archery, and target shooting. He also held a private pilot's license, reflecting his adventurous spirit and love of learning.

A proud United States Navy veteran, Michael served his country after graduating from high school on the USS John Marshall submarine. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, where his faith and commitment to service were evident.

Michael will be remembered for his joyful spirit, positive outlook, and friendly nature. Above all, he loved his wife and family more than anything, and his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in all who knew him.

Beloved father of Nathan (Crystal) Opalko, Sarah (Kyle) Sumner, and Jacob (Cara) Opalko; proud Papa of Jay Opalko, Jack Opalko, Bram Sumner, Samson Opalko, and Wilson Opalko; and dear brother-in-law of Jim Eppler.

Michael is preceded in passing by his beloved wife Joyce Opalko; his parents John and Florence Opalko; and cherished sister Karen Eppler.

Visitation to take place on Wednesday, February 11 from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a rosary at 6PM at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home in Milford. Funeral Mass to take place on Thursday, February 12 at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows. Mass at 11:00 AM, with a instate, or gathering time, beginning at 10:00 AM at the church.
