Michael B. Overbey passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy built on dedication, strength, and an unwavering love for his family. Born on October 5, 1954, Mike lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and showing up for the people who needed him.
For nearly 55 years, Mike shared an extraordinary love story with his beloved wife, Liz. She was his rock, his partner, and his greatest blessing. Together they built a home rooted in hard work, sacrifice, plowing through obstacles and doubt, unconditional love, and unwavering commitment to family. Their marriage was a living example of love, patience, loyalty, and the quiet strength that comes from walking through good and bad times hand in hand.
Mike was a proud and devoted father to his children, Mike (Amy), Rob (Jen), and Rhonda (Tim). He believed deeply in providing for his family and dedicated his life, often through long hours and physical sacrifice, to ensure his children had every opportunity to succeed. He was known as a firm and loving father, holding his children to high standards because he believed in their potential and wanted them prepared for life.
There was no hiding the way his heart softened when it came to his grandchildren and the family they brought into his life. His daughters-in-law, Amy and Jen, and his son-in-law, Tim, quickly became family in every sense of the word. And when he became "Papa," it was a role he cherished beyond measure.
Mike loved his role as Papa and adored his grandchildren: Jacquelyn (Anthony), Anthony, Jane, Cate, Kaleb, Mary, and Elisabeth, along with his great-granddaughter, Elsie. He found his greatest joy cheering them on at dance recitals, cheerleading, and sporting events, rarely missing an opportunity to support them. He loved gathering with family beside the backyard pool, playing poker, sharing laughter and games during beach vacations, and embracing the family traditions of Christmas. He wore the title of "Papa" with tremendous pride and was affectionately known by many as Sheepdog, Big Mike, Papa, or Uncle Mike, always ready with encouragement and a warm, welcoming presence.
Mike also gave generously of his time to young people in his community. He spent 20+ years coaching youth baseball, counseling and/or mentoring youth where he demanded effort, perseverance and discipline. In return he gave them confidence, structure, and someone who believed in them.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Liz; his children, Mike (Amy), Rob (Jen), and Rhonda (Tim); his treasured grandchildren and great-granddaughter; and his loyal canine companion, Louie, who rarely left his side. He is also survived by his siblings Gary, Greg, Diane, Patty, and Larry, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to be part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Overbey; his siblings Wanda, Karen, Sandra, Randy, and Debbie; and his mother-in-law, Caterina.
Mike's legacy lives on through the family he raised, the young people he mentored, and the countless memories created around pools, fields, stages, beaches, and holiday tables. He will be remembered as a man who led by example, loved through action, and found his greatest joy in the success and happiness of his family.
