Michael Glenn Owenby

Michael Glenn Owenby, age 63, of Hickory, and formerly of Marion, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 31, 2018, at home following a long battle with cancer. Born March 18, 1955, in Rhode Island, he was a son of Peggy McKinney Owenby of Marion and the late Glenn Ervin Owenby. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and supportive wife of 23 years Kaye McCall Owenby; his mother, Peggy Owenby; his son, Michael W. Owenby (Amber) and daughter Dana H. Bolick (Joey); his grandchildren, Kendall Bolick, Cutter Bolick, Karley Bolick, Kilie Owenby, Grey Owenby, and Jacob Bruce; his sisters, Carolyn Gross and Janet Ollis, both of Marion; and brother Gregory Owenby (Sonjia) of Edenton, NC; Mike graduated from McDowell High School. He worked in the textile industry for many years at American Truetzchler before joining the IBEW Union 379 in Charlotte where he did subcontracting work at Google in Lenoir and later Apple. Mike loved woodworking and purchased a portable sawmill twenty years ago, milled his own lumber making furniture and other craft items the family will cherish and be carried down through the generations. He was a friend and mentor to many over the years. He will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held 7:00PM Friday August 3, 2018 at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory. Pastor Bill Sturm will be officiating and Pastor Gregory Owenby will be assisting. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.
