Michael Paulson

Michael Paulson, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026. A devoted resident of Mt. Carmel, Michael later fulfilled his dream of living surrounded by nature, moving to a home in the woods in Cleveland Township where he embraced the beauty of the mountains he loved so deeply.

Born in Danville on November 21, 1944, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen (Kovack) Paulson.

Michael was a decorated US Navy veteran having served his country from 1966 until 1969.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the PA Department of Environmental Protection as treatment plant operator.

Michael was a man who truly appreciated the outdoors. He found joy in mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking, always seeking adventure and fresh air. He had a deep love for music and could often be found attending concerts and music festivals. His love for dogs was unmistakable, and they were always a special part of his life.

Above all, Michael was a devoted family man. He was married for fifty years to his beloved wife, the former Monica Lewis who survives; he cherished each year spent with her deeply. He is also survived by his daughter, Melissa Cornelius and her husband Alex; his son, Michael Paulson and his wife Sara; and his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Delaney, Raina, Nash, Nora, Max, and Stone. Known and loved as Bumpy, he took great pride in following his grandchildren’s academic achievements and sporting events.

Michael will be remembered for his love of nature, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to his family. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Religious services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11:00 am with Very Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki, officiating at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III Supervisor. A visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home.
