Michael Pechar Obituary

Michael "Mike" Joseph Pechar (77) passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025 at home in Matthews, NC.

He was born January 29, 1948 in Omaha, NE but lived many places while growing up as the oldest son of a career Army officer. He attended Iowa State University and left to join the Nuclear Navy where he became an E6 Petty Officer First Class, serving as a Prototype Instructor at the S3G nuclear reactor near Ballston Spa, NY and as an IC Electrician on nuclear submarines. He later worked as a consultant for various nuclear plants around the country. Mike loved to write and maintained a blog called Interested-Participant. Before moving to Matthews, he and Susan lived for 38 years in Concord, OH where they enjoyed attending Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians games.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Susan McDuffie Pechar, twin daughters Wendy Ford-Licon (Ed) of Albuquerque, NM and Mindy Ford-Faiman (Kelly) of Bellevue, NE, their mother, Linda Bey Graham, daughter Ter M. Spinner of Black Mountain, NC and son Michael C. Pechar (Sarah) of Ballston Spa, NY, their mother, Ret Pechar Carpenter, son Matthew D. Pechar of Matthews, NC, and 8 grandchildren

He was predeceased by his parents Godfrey Joseph Pechar and Betty Lou Craren Pechar, siblings Patrick Edward Pechar, Sandra Jane Pechar Young, and Randy James Pechar.

A military committal service will be scheduled at a later date at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery near Saratoga Springs, NY.

Having lived for 9 years with dementia, Mike was fortunate to be able to attend Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care (13001 Idlewild Rd, Matthews, NC 28105) for the last year and a half of his life. Memorial donations in his name to this wonderful, caring group or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
