Michael Richard Poppert (age 64) passed away on November 14 th, 2024. Michael, or Mike, son of Richard and Marie Poppert, graduated from Clover Park High School, class of 1978, and from Western Washington University, BA in Business Administration class of 1982. Mike then commissioned into the Air Force in 1985 and served as a Nuclear and Missile Operations Officer (Missileer) for 24.5 years, acting as the nation's sword and shield while operating the world's most powerful weapon system. Michael continued his professional education, earning a Master of Science in Human Resources Management from Lesley College, Cambridge MA class of 1992. Upon retirement at JB Lewis-McChord, he continued his service in the North Thurston Public School District as a paraeducator for 13 years. Mike was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Lacey, WA. He was also a lifetime member of the Association of Air Force Missileers. Michael was a loving and devoted husband, a supportive father, and a dependable brother. He often enjoyed spending time with his wife at the beach, going on hunting trips with his sons, and watching the weekly Cornhusker game in the Fall. Michael is survived by his wife; Lori Poppert, his siblings; Mark, Peter and Pamela Poppert, his sons; Ryan, Jeremy, and Kenny Poppert, and his three pugs; Winston, Pearl, and Shoei. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marie Poppert and his brother, Patrick Poppert. There will be a funeral for Mike at Saint Michael Catholic Church - Downtown (1055 Boundary St SE, Olympia, WA 98501) on Friday, November 29 th at 12:00pm. All are welcome to attend. Military (active/retired/prior) are invited to wear service dress uniform. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations towards esophageal cancer research or a local pug rescue group. If donating, please donate in memory of Michael Poppert. Donations can be sent to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and/or Pacific Pug Rescue.
