Michael Nii Mensah Quartey was born on April 7, 1978 in Camden, NJ to Samuel Quartey and Beatrice (Okan) Quartey. He comes from the Quartey Family, the Okan Family, the Carboo Opetoto Family of Ningo, and the Botchway Family of Ghana. He was the youngest son of four children, Lambert and Preston (2 brothers and 1 younger sister) Tricia. He married Jacole Fletcher and they had his son Michael Junior.
He attended Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees NJ before attending Franklin and Marshall College on a Football Scholarship where he graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and went on to attend New York Law School and later transferred to Rutgers School of Law. Michael received his Juris Doctor in 2003 and later passed the bar in New Jersey. He served on the altar as an acolyte of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church of Cherry Hill.
Michael aka Mic Q was an avid music fan and opened a recording studio to help up and coming independent artists realize their dream. Michael was a jack of all trades, at one point he would film and edit music videos for artists as well. Then came his love for football which was unmatched. As a Division 3 athlete he wanted to open doors for others like him that may not have had the chance to be seen by the National Football League. This prompted him to start his football combines and bowl games.
He was a visionary sports agent who created opportunities for countless young athletes in both basketball and football. Through his efforts with the National Bowl, the FCS Bowl and the FBS Tropical Bowl, he opened doors for talented football kids who might have otherwise gone unnoticed by football teams. His unwavering belief in their potential changed lives and provided them with a chance to showcase their skills to the AFL, CFL and NFL, a testament to his deep commitment to giving back to the community.
Michael was a beloved father who poured his heart and soul into his family. His love for his son and his entire family was boundless, and unwavering. His laughter filled our home, and his unwavering support made every challenge seem surmountable.
As a lecturer, he inspired countless students, sharing his knowledge and passion for the law while nurturing their dreams. His ability to connect with others, to make them feel valued and heard, was a gift that he shared with everyone he encountered. Michael had a unique way of making everyone feel like they mattered, and his love for people was evident in every interaction and conversation.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we take solace in the incredible legacy he leaves behind. Michael's spirit will live on in the lives he touched, the dreams he helped realize, and the love he so freely gave. We are eternally grateful for the time we shared with him and the memories that will forever warm our hearts.
Rest in peace, dear Michael. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Your love, your passion, and your unwavering support will continue to guide us as we move forward without you. Thank you for being the remarkable brother, husband, father, and friend that you were. We love you always.
Michael is survived by his son Michael Jacob Kwate Quartey, Michael Jr's mother Jacole Danielle Fletcher, his parents Dr. Samuel Nii Kwate Quartey and Beatrice Adjokor Quartey and his siblings Lambert Nii Kpa Kpa Quartey, Preston Nii Kwateii Quartey and Tricia Naa Kwale Quartey-Sagaille.
