Michael V. Russo was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Vincenza Avela and Ralph Russo, immigrants from the Campagna region of Southern Italy. Although he never graduated from high school, he made a successful career for himself, first as an N.Y.P.D. firefighter and later as a Fire Inspector in Manhattan and Fire Safety Director at 30 Rockefeller Center and 666 Fifth Avenue. Drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he served honorably in Germany and spent the next sixteen years as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Michael is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Gina, his two children, Michael and Lisa, his three grandchildren, Nicole, Alyssa, and James, and numerous nieces and nephews.
