Michaele A. Schettino, "Michael" 88, of Scotch Plains, NJ formerly of New Providence, NJ and most recently Toms River, NJ passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at his home with his loving family at his side.
Michael was born on January 13, 1936 in Potenza, Italy in the Pescopagano Region. He was the son of Maria Michaele (nee Buldo) and Francesco Schettino. Michael was a longtime resident of New Providence, NJ before moving to Toms River and then to Scotch Plains, NJ. He was the Owner & Operator of Schettino Disposal Company, Michael's Pizzeria Restaurant and Sunset Pines Landscaping. Michael was a loving husband who enjoyed spontaneously dancing and singing to his favorite Italian songs and various artists with his wife of 55 years Angela. He was a devoted father who loved his children and grandchildren very much and worked hard for them. He had many trades and skills that he taught to his children and anyone willing to learn including strong work ethics and also how to have fun in life. He was an amazing cook, making it hard to find a restaurant that he enjoyed. He relaxed at the family vacation home in the Catskill Mountains or at the Jersey Shore camping, fishing and crabbing with his kids and then later with his grandchildren. Michael enjoyed playing pinochle with uncles, cousins and nephews on holidays or at his Italian-American club on Saturday nights. His favorite sport was hockey with the Rangers being his favorite team. Michael was proud of his many and various vegetable gardens and would end his day with a scratch off ticket from the local convenience store. He admired and collected many gold watches throughout the years.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Angela (nee King) Schettino, his loving children, Jennifer Grzenda and her husband David, Frank Schettino and his wife Alisha and Michael Schettino Jr., and his wife Faye. He was the brother of Rosa DiMaria and Edgidio Schettino and their spouses Francisco DiMaria and Rita Schettino, the cherished grandfather of Kristoffer Schettino, Melia Schettino, Paul Grzenda, Talia Schettino, and Dante Schettino. Michael was also survived by his great-grandchildren, Gideon, and Aurora. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Canio Schettino, Ida Schettino, and Filomena Brienza.
