Michael David Schroeder, 35, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on the morning of Friday, January 10, 2025.
Michael was born on October 6, 1989 in Indianapolis. He spent his life enjoying outdoor hikes and adventures, cycling rides throughout the Midwest, cycling racing, and economics. Michael remained close to his family and especially close to his sister, Kristen.
Michael’s curious personality and love for the outdoors sparked a sense of adventure and exploration through many of Indiana’s state parks, multiple national parks, to Europe and Australia. It also took him to the summit of Pike’s Peak and a 17 day, 234 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail starting in Northern Georgia through the Carolinas and Tennessee. His amazing physical stamina to accomplish these feats came from his personal dedication and hard work in training.
Michael earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and mathematics and a master's degree in accounting from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. In addition to his rigorous coursework in college, he was a member of Indiana’s most competitive cycling team, the Cutter’s Cycling Team, and with his team won Indiana’s prestigious Little 500 race twice in 2009 and 2010.
Michael is survived by his mother and father, Patricia and John Schroeder, and his sister and brother in-law, Kristen Schroeder and Chris Johnson.
Services will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church at 6131 N Michigan Road in Indianapolis on Friday, January 31, 2025. Visitation prior to Service with family and friends will be open at 11:30 AM and will follow with Mass at 1:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed via St. Monica Catholic Church. Immediately following after Mass there will be a luncheon and memorial reception to celebrate Michael’s life at the Highland Country Club at 1050 52nd Street starting at 2:30 PM. Everyone is invited.
As an alternative to flower donations, the family requests donations be made in Michael’s name to Kristen Schroeder, via the avenues noted below, to be donated in Michael’s name to support initiatives to help those struggling with mental health and mental illness.
