Michael "Big Mike" Scott, Sr., of 77, of Hanover Park, IL, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph. A Home Going Service will be held on Saturday, May 13, at 1 PM at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 1105 E. Main St., Benton Harbor, MI, with Pastor Maurice McAfee officiating. Michael "Big Mike" Scott Sr., 77, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 1, 2023, at Corewell Health in St. Joseph, Michigan. He was born on June 2, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Horace Jones and Addie Scott. He attended Crane High School in Chicago.
While living in Chicago, Mike was a longtime employee of Kuppenheimer Clothing. He later moved to Atlanta, where he became supervisor of Shepherd Convention Services, setting up for various shows and events. Big Mike was well known for raising and training pit bulls. Mike also had a special love for restoring and selling classic cars. You would find him shooting pool or spending time with his family any other time.
He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancé, Jodean Reed; daughters, Anitra Scott, Caprice (Lance) Sutton, Michelle (Andre') Isom, Monique Scott, and Markeeta Partee; sons, Dennis Scott, Keven (Samm) Leftridge, Michael Angelo Scott, Michael D Scott, Tracey (TaShuna) Nixon, Al Reed, and Ron Scott; siblings, Dennis (Priscella) Scott, Patricia Brisker, Barbara Scott, Phyllis Gary, and Shirley Aikens; godchildren, Amor Long, Dante Long, and Darel Rice; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Jones and Addie Scott; daughter, Laniece Day; and son, Michael Scott Jr.
