Michael Joseph Sculthorpe, 61, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital after several weeks of failing health. He was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey on March 10, 1964 to the late Richard William and Margaret Emma Sculthorpe and was the husband of 33 years to his wife whom he adored, Susan Puckett Sculthorpe.
Michael was the proud owner and operator of Mike's Deli, an establishment he successfully ran for 36 years, beginning in March of 1989. He had a deep appreciation for his employees and the customers that helped to make his business a success. Michael enjoyed trips to the mountains to places like Sylva, Boone and Todd and had a love for sports, especially baseball and football. He always looked forward to the Christmas season and the festivities that came along with it. One of his greatest joys was binge watching the Christmas Hallmark movies at home with his wife. Michael was a compassionate man with a soft spirit who loved Jesus and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; sisters, Karyn Franks (Jon), Patricia “Patty” Murdock (Ron); numerous nieces, nephews and his mother-in-law, Patricia Ann Walker Puckett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margaret Sculthorpe.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Brian Hill. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Toys for Tots at https://www.toysfortots.org/.
