He was born on October 28, 1960, in Rochester, New York, where he spent his early years nurturing a profound love for the great outdoors.
Michael dedicated many years of his life to the National Parks, notably at the iconic Grand Canyon and Yosemite, where his passion for nature and wildlife flourished. His work in these breathtaking environments highlighted not only his commitment to conservation but also his desire to share the beauty of the natural world with others.
In addition to his distinguished career, Michael was an avid golfer, often enjoying the game alongside his family and friends. He also had a great affection for baseball, frequently spending time watching games and cheering for his favorite teams. These interests were not simply hobbies; they were moments of joy and camaraderie that he cherished with friends and family alike.
Michael is survived by his loving brother, James Short, and his two sisters, Ann and Eileen Short. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins who will always remember his warmth and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marie Maier Short, and by three brothers and two sisters, whose memories will forever remain a part of his legacy.
A memorial gathering in honor of Michael will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, Westside, located at 2636 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626, on March 14, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join together in celebration of his life and the wonderful memories he created.
Michael J. Short will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his love for his family, and his zest for life. He brought joy to the hearts of many and will be deeply missed.
