Mrs. Susan Lynn Cumby Short, age 68 of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. She was born on November 12, 1957 in Hialeah, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Robert Emmet Cumby and Hazel Weeks Cumby.

Having lived in Atlanta for most of her life Mrs. Short's career was centered around serving and providing for children, all of whom she loved dearly. She spent 20 years working for the Cobb County School District at J. Milton Lewis Elementary serving students in the lunchroom. She also spent 21 years working for the Cobb County Police Department as a Crossing Guard assigned to the same school. Mrs. Short was a faithful member of the New Salem Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Gene Short; daughters, Wanda Bowen (Paul) and Renee Harper; sons, Autry Short and Dwight Short; brothers Richard Cumby (Ellen) and Gary Cumby (Debra); several nieces nephews and other extended family also survive.

Mrs. Short is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sharon Lance; nephew, Billy Cumby; aunt and uncle, Frank and Edith Jones.

The funeral arrangements for Mrs. Short will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at two o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Vines officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family of Mrs. Short will receive family and friends on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 11 o'clock in the morning until the service hour at the Olin L. Gammage & Sons Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen wills serve as pallbearers: Autry Short, Dwight Short, Paul Bowen, Brian McCray and Nick Pepper.
