Michael J. Simmons "Mike" of Ruskin passed away October 30th, 2024, in the company of his pastor and loved ones after a four-year battle with cancer.
Michael was born to Kenneth Simmons and Bobbie Strong on October 15th of 1958 and graduated from East Bay High School in 1976. In 1979 Mike started his first multi-decade stint as an electrician with Florida Power and Light, a natural vessel for his work ethic, his technical mind and his physicality, and a vocation which brought him lifelong friendships.
Mike loved cars and big engines. And sharing this passion with his son Michael. Mike also loved motorcycles. He loved the freedom of the open road and the comradery of riding. In 2008 Mike introduced his then-new wife Patie to riding and over the years they traversed thousands of miles alongside Mike's brother Wes and their posse of riders.
Mike is perhaps best remembered for his light-hearted humor and his warmth. He would light up just about any room with a well-placed line. And he always saw the best in others. And his door was always open. And there was always a seat at his table. He was a man of deeply committed faith and in his actions he echoed Christ's teachings.
Mike is survived by his wife Patie and her children and grandchildren, his mom Bobbie, his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Stacy, his daughter Kim and her son Josh, and his siblings Dana, Frankie, Wes, and Becky. Mike's memorial service will be Saturday, November 9th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Simmons Loop Baptist Church, at 6610 Simmons Loop in Riverview, FL.

Michael was always the person in the room in which everyone gravitated to.
His wit was something I always love about him. He could dish it out with the best of them, but he also could take it. We would go at each other all the time.
He was always a great person to work with as he would love to show the new people what to do and always would welcome them.

He will be greatly missed.
To a fellow Union Brother and Friend,
God speed.

Mike will be truly missed. Any room that Mike walked into was lit up by his bright and humorous personality. Mike would have the whole room in laughter after one of his amazing stories. Also, Mike had a sincere and caring attitude towards people of all walks of life. GOD Bless you Mike.
