Michael Joseph Smith

Michael Joseph Smith, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and respected member of every community he touched, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 63 years old.
Born on March 12, 1962, Michael lived a life marked by strength, generosity, and deep love for his family. He spent many years raising his family in Diamond Bar, California, before eventually settling in Aztec, New Mexico, where he found joy in being close to his beloved granddaughter, Harmony.
Michael is survived by his wife, Lisa, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage after being wed on New Year's Eve in 1995. Together, the built a beautiful life centered on love, loyalty, and laughter. He is also survived by his children: Karlee, Joshua, Nicolette, Ruby, and Crystal-each of whom carry forward his values, strength, and humor. His memory also lives on through his two brothers, one sister, and a large extended family, including many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Alfred Smith and Barbara "Betty" Lou Childers, and his sister, Teresa Smith.
A diesel mechanic by trade, Michael spent his entire adult life working tirelessly in a field that reflected his hands-on nature and unshakable work ethic. He was known for being honest, sarcastic, funny, and endlessly reliable. whether it was fixing engines or fixing lives, he gave fully of himself, never hesitating to open his home or heart to children and young people in need.
Michael's legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and a unique wit that brought smiles even in hard times. His good nature, strong sense of integrity, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
