Agatha Bowden

Agatha (Aggie) Teresa Bowden 93 passed away peacefully on Monday morning June 9th. 2025, while residing at Cranes Roost Care Home in Aztec NM, where they lovingly looked after and cared for her in her final year of life. Agatha was born in Gallup NM on a Sunday in 1931 to Jose and Rumalda Garcia. She was the eldest of 3 children and the last surviving sibling. She grew up in Farmington NM where her and her brother Jimmy and sister Marylou would play along the river, help her father and grandfather in the garden and get into mischief. There wasn't a person in Farmington Aggie didn't know or a relative of a relative. After graduating from Farmington High School Aggie went to Albuquerque NM to attend secretarial school. This prepared her for working with the State of NM in Shiprock and later in insurance in Farmington. In 1957 at a St. Patrick's party, she met Buddy Bowden. They married in 1958 and went on to welcome their first daughter Teresa (Horn). Years later they moved to Maracaibo Venezuela where Buddy worked offshore drilling. There they welcomed their second daughter Charlie (Romero). Aggie loved Venezuela and it only nurtured along her love for travel, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. She was blessed to have visited 5 of our 7 continents in her lifetime. After returning home from Venezuela she started volunteering at San Juan Regional Medical Center as a Pink Lady. She later volunteered in the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Dept. She loved to give back to her community whether it was through the hospital, during the elections or as a Eucharistic minister at her beloved Sacred Heart Parish, where she also attended school as a little girl. She was a devoted parishoner of Sacred Heart her entire life. Aggie loved fast cars, red jellybeans, a ribbon in her hair, Mexican food, dessert and Michael Jordan. She loved her family, and we loved her very much. Our mom was brave, courageous and smart. She had a true grit and was a fiery little Mexican lady. She will be missed but will forever in our hearts. Agatha is preceded in death by her beloved husband Buddy Bowden, stepdaughter Kathleen Fair, parents Jose and Rumalda Garcia, her brother James Garcia, sister-in-law Lily Garcia, sister Marylou Darby brother in law James Darby, nephew Joe Darby and her grandparents Andy and Victoria Romero. Agatha is survived by daughters Teresa (John) Horn, Charlie (Alex) Romero, grandchildren Tina Wood, Michael Anthony Romero great grandchildren Angelina Williams, Axanda Williams and great great grandson Sam Carter. Agatha and Buddy were blessed to experience 5 generations in their lifetime. Funeral and burial arrangements to be announced at a later date.
