BASILE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Michael O. Sonnier announces his passing on Sunday, October 06, 2024, at the Acadian Medical Center in Eunice at the age of 75. A Celebration of Life will be Celebrated at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 08, 2024, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Basile. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery with Father Keenan Brown officiating.
Michael was born on February 2, 1949, in Kinder, Louisiana, to the late Leslie and Eunice Bushnell Sonnier. He embodied the spirit of a simple man who found joy in passing a good time in the company of friends. Michael was cherished for his unwavering friendship and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on all those who knew him. His gentle soul and loving heart will forever remain in our memories.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of twenty-four years, Lillian “Lala” D. Sonnier of Basile; his two sisters, Sandra Sonnier Rider and husband, Russell “Potic”, and Nanette Sonnier, all of Basile; nephew, Matthew Shane Lavergne and wife, Meggen of Dry Creek; two great nieces, Morgan S. Lavergne and Mardi S. Lavergne, both of Dry Creek; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Carl Sonnier, parents, and brother, Ted Sonnier.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Basile on Tuesday, October 8th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be prayed at 12:30 pm on Tuesday by the Catholic Daughters.
Reading for the funeral service will be his great niece, Morgan S. Lavergne. Pallbearers carrying him to his final resting place include, Russell “Potic” Rider, Shane Lavergne, Wesley Sonnier, James Sonnier, Wade Marcantel, and Freddie Young.
