Michael R. Sorenson, 79, of Anoka, MN passed away on December 7, 2025.

Michael was born on March 7, 1946 in Fairmont, MN the son of Kenneth Sorenson and Gladys Selbrade. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. He grew up in Oakland, MN and Elk River, MN. He graduated from Elk River high school in 1964. By his classmates he was widely known as being a good guy and a great athlete. He lettered 3 years in basketball & football. He lettered 1 year in baseball. In 1964, the WCCO radio station honored him by listing him as being football's team of the week and also being Elk River's Athlete of the year.

He was a lifelong sports lover and win or lose he would watch the Minnesota Vikings play every Sunday. He loved to coach his daughter's sports games and enjoyed cheering them on. He also enjoyed taking his girls bowling on Saturday mornings. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching movies. Mike always seemed to have a smile on his face & loved to kid around with his family and friends. He had a kind word for everyone and was always a ray of sunshine.

After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force. Basic training was completed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He also served for approximately 2.5 years in Alaska, plus spent some time in Tucson, AZ.

Michael was united in marriage to Sheila Youngquist on August 29, 1970. They resided in the Twin Cities area. They have three daughters: Susan, Nicole, & Angelia. Sheila & Michael were divorced in 1985. They remain close friends today.

Michael worked 29 years for the Knox Lumber Company. He then worked for another lumber company until his retirement. In retirement he delivered newspapers for The Minneapolis Star & Tribune.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Sorenson and Gladys Selbrade.

Michael is survived by his daughters: Susan (Mark) Seidl of Ramsey, MN, Nicole (Brian) Routh of Thornton, CO, and Angelia Sorenson of Anoka, MN. Granddaughter Karissa (Galdino) Perez of Northglenn, CO. His best friend Sheila Youngquist of Anoka, MN. Sister Judith (Gary) Hanson of Fairmont, MN. Any many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

As per Michael's wishes, he did not wish to have a funeral. There will be a short committal service at Fort Snelling Cemetery on 12/18/2025 at 12:30 PM. Memorials may be given to your favorite charity in his name.
