Springer, Michael
ROTONDA WEST, Fla. - Michael A. Springer, 66, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away on December 17, 2024.
Michael was born on March 14, 1958, in Fulton, N.Y., to Stanley Leroy, Sr. and Helen Springer (neé Antoshka).
Michael graduated from Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg, N.Y., in 1976. He went on to complete an Associates Degree in Data Processing at SUNY Cobleskill in N.Y., where he also met his wife, Sarah (neé Toomey).
Michael and Sarah married on August 4, 1984, in Troy, N.Y. They settled in the Village of East Nassau, N.Y., where they went on to raise their three children. Michael loved his wife first and foremost with all his might, and was the best father to his three children. He created the most loving, close-knit family, and instilled in them his love for the outdoors. He leaves them with fond memories of canoeing, boating, fishing (and fishing derbies), and ice fishing on Tsatsawassa Lake, cross-country skiing their 12 acres of woods, and building bonfires and forts in the backyard. Michael passed on his love of the water and fishing to the next generation.
Michael started his career at Hudson Valley Community College, and went on to serve the State of New York at the Dormitory Authority, where he retired from nine years ago. He had an incredible amount of adventures, side quests, hobbies and passions throughout his life. He was a skilled outdoorsman and hunter, and recently placed first in the United States Practical Shooting Association's 2024 Carry Optics Nationals. Michael played an instrumental role in the formation of the Village of East Nassau, N.Y., of which he was elected to lead as mayor for six years. He began the Lacrosse program at La Salle Institute in 1986, and built it into a perennial Section II power. In 1989, he was awarded the Man of the Year Award by the United States Lacrosse Coaches Association. He was most proud of leading the La Salle lacrosse team to six Sectional Finals, capturing four Sectional championships, and two second place team wins, with two league championships.
Michael was an amazing man, husband, father, and coach. He made so many friends everywhere he went, and touched many lives. He was lovingly embraced by the entire Toomey Family, who became his family, and he was grateful for friends who became family, in particular the Mulcahy family of West Sand Lake, N.Y.
Remaining to cherish Michael's memories are Sarah Springer, 63, (neé Toomey); his son, Timothy Springer, 34; his daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Springer, 33, and her fiancé, Patrick Naple, 32, and his daughter, Hannah Springer, 33, and her husband, Matthew Hart, 33. Michael is also survived by his brother, R. Scott Springer, and Scott's former wife, Paula Springer (neé Scopelitis).
