Michael Trent Stamey

Michael Trent Stamey, 67, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 8, 2024, after a short illness. He was born May 2, 1957, in Columbia, SC to the late Harold Lee "Hoss" Stamey and Helen Josephine Stamey. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Allard Stamey.
Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years, Teresa McCrary Stamey and sons Michael Stamey Jr. (Bucky), Joshua Stamey, and Johnathan Stamey. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Wray (Maury), brothers Harold "Lee" Stamey Jr. and David Stamey (Jane), cousin Robert Shealy (who was like a brother), as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Mike.
Mike worked as a machinist at Genie Products for over 20 years after previously working at Ecusta until it closed. He started a successful machine shop that he operated as a side business until his illness made it impossible. The most important things in Mike's life were his family and his pets. Mike never met a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went. He loved his beat-up old vehicles, the St. Louis Cardinals, rock and roll music, and walking through the woods with his pets, including his goat.
In his early years he loved playing little league baseball, where he was coached by his father and played with his brothers. The love of baseball continued throughout his life. He passed the love of the game to his own sons, who excelled at the sport. Mike also loved playing slow pitch softball for several years after high school. For those who knew Mike, they know that he is the one and only number 20, which was the number he wanted on his jersey each year for the county softball league.
Mike was always in the service of his family, his friends, and whoever was in need. Mike knew the Lord and was at peace before he went home.
An informal visitation will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Deerlake Clubhouse. 333 Deerlake Road, Brevard, NC 28712
