Michael “Cowboy” Starn, 65, of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at his home.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery with his best friend & beloved dog, Prince. Michael Howard Starn was born on October 21, 1959 in Marshalltown. He was the son of John and Patricia (Glenn) Starn. Michael attended West Marshall High School. Michael had worked as a fabricator at Central Iowa Machine Shop, Russell Pump and Engineering and Capital City Boiler. He was also a first responder and firefighter for Albion and Clemons. Michael was a member of B.A.C.A. of Iowa, and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 33 out of Des Moines. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He competed in the shooting competitions at the Izaak Walton League. Michael also enjoyed coon, bird and coyote hunting. Michael was a gifted welder and a “metal artist”. He was also considered to be a “MacGyver” of sorts, and could fix or make anything work.
Michael is survived by his children: Beau (Kelli) Starn, Shannon (Tom) Palmer, Brad Starn, Cody (Chelsea) Starn and Colton (Cynthia) Starn. Grandchildren: Kennedi, Blayne, Harper, Sterling, Scarlett, Blake, Braxton, Emery and Brixlee. He is also survived by his siblings: Darlene (Vince) Bears and Daniel (Lisa) Starn and parents: John and Pat; mother of his children: Connie; best-friend: Doug (Jess) Loffgren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, along with his grand dog: Lovie.
Michael is preceded in death by his granddaughter: Jossilyn Starn; nephew: Joshua Pritchett; grandparents: Howard and Bessie Starn and Snow Glenn; his dogs: McQuade and Misty along with his grand dog: BoBo.
