Michael Kane Storbeck, 63, of Grinnell, IA passed away on September 14, 2025, at UnityPoint – Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:30 am at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made payable to Chris Storbeck, mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Michael was born on January 29, 1962, in Grinnell, IA to Melvin and Evelyn (Easton) Storbeck. He grew up in Grinnell alongside his three siblings: Rick, Randy and Monica.
Michael worked for many years as a laborer. He worked for KLK and Shoon Construction burying fiber optic cables and most recently was a member of Laborers' Local 177 and received his 15-year pin while he was in the hospital. He was an active member of Farm to Table and helped with the local food coalition.
Michael enjoyed fishing at Lake Nyanza and Rock Creek Lake and would take his children to his favorite spots. Before he got sick, he enjoyed sledding at hamburger hill and at Hazelwood cemetery.
Michael is survived by his children; Christopher (Jennifer) Storbeck of Gilman, IA, Melissa (Derek) Kasal of Williamsburg, IA, and Claire Storbeck of Grinnell, IA; his grandchildren, Logan, Mason, Carter, Bella, Kennick, Zoey and Gage; his sister, Monica (Mike) Ogan, of Grinnell, IA; and numerous cousins.
He is preceded by his parents, Melvin, and Evelyn, and his brothers, Rick Storbeck, and Randy Storbeck.
