Michael Sundin was born in Detroit on July 20, 1947. He honorably served in the U.S. Army. Michael was a heavy mechanic, learning the trade of welding, and loved it. He began as an assembly line worker and then finally got his welder position, retiring from General Motors Bus and Truck Group in Pontiac, MI. He was very proud of his welding skills and went back to college to get his associate degree. He was very well-liked and a hard worker. When he was in charge of a group, he was very fair and respected.
Michael moved to North Port, FL after his retirement, 5 days before Hurricane Charley hit Punta Gorda on August 9, 2004.
Being from Detroit he had a love for fast cars of the '50-'70s and owned several different makes and models. Michael loved going to car shows, meeting other car enthusiasts, and making many friends over the years. He and his wife were involved in the start of the famous Woodward Cruise from the first one which was actually a fundraiser for a soccer field. It was so successful that it went through 12 towns after the initial event and became the biggest one-day cruise in the nation, we believe. He sold several of his cars there and found several others to buy. He took his love for cars to Florida and met many good people and became a member of the Peace River Car Club and the West Coast Car Club.
He loved to take pictures of his travels with his wife and especially cars. They would go out of state to events and racing. He loved his boat in Michigan, often spending time enjoying it with his friends and family. He taught his daughter how to fish and water ski. His family also enjoyed camping. He was a big Star Trek and Aliens fan. Most of all he loved being home with his wife of 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Audrey Sundin; his daughter Tracy Plummer; granddaughter Nicole Plummer; grandson Josh Verpooten a Marine; and a great-grandson Jack who is 2 years old. His sister Patricia Sundin; brother Jerry Sundin; and niece Amy Sundin-Unger, Godchild; sisters-in-law Tracy Sundin, Laura Wallace, and Janice Arnold; brothers-in-law Gary Placer and Jack Wallace; and Godchild Heather Wallace-McDonough.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Leanora Sundin, brother Daniel Sundin, and his wife's parents whom he was close to, Paul and Marian Placer.
No services will be held in Florida. A private burial will be held at a future date in Michigan.

I worked with Mike in the Astro, and General Body shop. He was a good friend, and I always enjoyed his sense of humor and also playing cards at break time. The body Shop was like a home away from home for many of us. We worked with the same workers for 10 to 15 years. And he was one hell of a WELDER. The best I had ever seen, The last time I seen Mike was several years ago At Lapeer Days, He had his 63 Ford with him. I was so sad seeing his name in the Local 594 Obits.
