Michael A. Swing, 84, of Hicksville, formerly of Harlan, passed away January 16, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Michael was born in Harlan on June 11, 1940, a son of the late Doris (Powell) & Joseph Swing.
Michael grew up deeply connected to his community and school in the Harlan area, often saying, "Harlan is home, Hicksville is just where I live." He served six years in the National Guard, and worked as a machinist at Zollner Pistons for many years. On October 2, 1970, Michael married Carla, the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful family over more than 50 years. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing—he was the oldest and longest member at Pond-a-River Golf Course—and fishing, particularly on trips to Minnesota. A lover of good food, he passed his sweet tooth on to his children and grandchildren. Michael was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees and IU basketball and was an active member of the Harlan United Methodist Church. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always there for his family, never missing a game or event.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Carla (Conner); children, Casie (Reggie Hammond) Swing, Michelle (Terry Dysinger) Swing, & Teri (Troy) Ritschard; siblings, Ralph Swing & Alan (Vickie) Sears; grandchildren, Colton, Dana, Breanna, Brennan, Zach, Seth, Chelsey, Taylor, Chance, Josh, & Alex; 14 great grandchildren; cousins, Sam & Jim Dix, & Suzy Sargent & beloved dog, Sammy.
Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Swing; Aunt Edie & Uncle Dave Dix.
