Michael Leo Taffe of Kittery, ME, caught the first chair up the great ski hill in the sky on the morning of Thursday, February 23rd, 2023. Born in Natick, MA on May 11th, 1950 to Anna Elizabeth Taffe and Lieutenant Colonel Richard Paul Taffe, he became a champion gymnast and graduated Indiana University in 1972 as a coach and educator.
A friend and mentor to many, his hard work ethic served himself and others well throughout his life, particularly in his later years as a RA patient advocate before Congress. A skilled guitarist and pianist, his favorite pastimes included music, golf, shooting, and skiing for over 50 years at Saddleback Mountain.
He is recently predeceased by his brother Richard Paul Taffe of Boston, MA and his sister Pauline McCormick of West Boylston, MA. He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Emily Lawless Taffe of New York City and Megan Joy Taffe of Charlestown, MA, as well as his cherished longtime love Candace Gaines of Salt Lake City, UT.
A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send all donations to St. Jude Foundation and the ASPCA. Arrangements by Gately Funeral Home, Melrose.

Capitol Hill will never be the same without you, Michael! I'm so sad to learn our Advocates for Arthritis visit was your last. It was an honor to be your friend and colleague.

Michael was very special to me, the closest entity to a father after my own passed away. I have such fond memories of dc, Boston, Maine, Indiana and of course skiing in saddleback. He possessed both a wonderful soul and a heart of cold. I will miss our long conversations, laughter and the incredible advice he gave. Love you forever, Michael.

Emily and Megan,

I am so sorry for your loss. You both were the love of his life....he was so proud of both of you. Your Dad was such a kind gentleman. He always tried to make people laugh and feel comfortable. He was so strong in the face of all his medical issues. I will miss seeing his smile. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Michael fought the good fight against his RA and other health issues. As his surviving Aunt, I am deeply saddened by his unexpected passing. I will miss you greatly. May you rest in peace with the rest of your family in heaven and save a place for me. Andrea Taffe

My husband, Kevin and I met Michael through a dear friend, Kerry Daley. During our many dinner outings, we had a lot of laughs and many discussions about politics, worthwhile charities to support such as the Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Foundation, life happenings etc. Michael had a great sense of humor and we always looked forward to our next couple visit!
You will be missed Michael!
