Michael Taggart

Michael J. Taggart, age 79, of La Porte, IN passed away September 3, 2024 at Northwest Health, La Porte. Michael was born June 18, l945 in Evansville, IN to Earl J. Taggart and Bonnie (Pitman) Taggart.

Mike is survived by his brother, Bill (Marybeth) Taggart of Dayton, OH, a sister Leslie Jaramillo (Leo) of Warrenville, IL and his nephew James Southe of Warrenville, IL.; and his cat Buddy. Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike served in the United States Navy 1963-1969, stationed on the USS Enterprise 1965-1966 off the coast of Vietnam. He was a graduate of Purdue University and earned his MBA from University of Phoenix. He had a successful career as a Manufacturing Engineer in the Michiana area. Mike was the owner of M. J. Taggart’s Arms & Ammunition in La Porte.

Mike was a Past Master of Excelsior Lodge #41 F & A M, a member of La Porte York Rite bodies, South Bend Scottish Rite, and Orak Shrine in Michigan City. He was also a past Patron of La Porte Chapter #280 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a life member of the New Buffalo Gun Club, member of the American Legion Post #37, Michigan City, a Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association, and a life member of the GOA. 

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350. A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 11 from 4 until 7:30 PM. Military Honors will be presented at 4 PM,  Eastern Star Memorial Service at 6:30 PM, and a Masonic Service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.
