On April 12 1955 Michael enlisted in United States Army and served until April 11, 1957. He then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University and a master's degree in education from Westminster College.

He was married to the former Louise Olenick on August 24, 1979.

Michael was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard. Previously, he was a member of St. James the Apostle Church in Pulaski before its closing.

Michael enjoyed reading every day, especially the Wall Street Journal and various business periodicals. He was talented in both carpentry and design and spent great deal of time in the construction of his own home after putting in a full day of teaching. He had a love of nature and enjoyed tending to his wooded property.

He was a very devoted husband and father and was an exceptional provider, leader, role model and friend. He was a very understanding and caring individual and had a deep compassion, a strong sense of loyalty and duty. He possessed genuine kindness, and was honest, trustworthy and reliable.

He will be deeply missed and always remembered by his wife, Louise; his son, Nicholas Turko of Pulaski. His brother John D. Turko of Hubbard survives him, and he was preceded in death by his parents.

The Turko family has entrusted Michael's care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio.
